Casa Nova is honored to present the work of a young New Mexican photographer, Naomi Natale. Four years ago Ms. Natale traveled to Kenya to do a photo documentary of children in slums. The exhibit will consist of 16 specially selected prints taken during her visit. The unframed, giclee photographs are 16 x 20 inches and 20 x 24 inches. The photos shown in the exhibit, 'The Broken Cradle' represent just a few of the some 2000 individual images of children in Kenya taken by Ms. Natale. Images of the photographs to be exhibited are available for publicity and can be provided on CD or sent via email. Ms. Natale is available for interviews; please call Casa Nova to make arrangements.
Born in 1981, Ms. Natale attended the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, graduating in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in fine arts. As a student, she traveled to Kenya where she connected with the Missionary Sisters of Mary Immaculate while photographing the children of the slums. It was during her visit that--struck by the grim realities facing these children--she formed the altruistic idea that manifested into The Cradle Project (see below).
"Throughout my time in Kenya my hands were so empty and I promised myself that whenever it was that I was to go back, I would somehow find a way for them to be full," said Ms. Natale.
In addition to photography, Naomi is a sculptor. She works with a variety of materials; creating individual pieces entrenched in symbolism. The Cradle Project grew its highly symbolic aspects from Ms. Natale's background, and ultimately manifests as a union between humanitarian and artistic spheres.
